Elite 40 Shootout

-Chattanooga, TN The stage was set for the highly anticipated Elite 40 weekend jumped off by the Elite 40 shootout, an invitation to both boys and girls to come compete as a team, leading up to the annual Elite 40 individual camp. It did not disappoint with programs such as Dynasty Elite (GA), NWGA Raptors, Chattanooga Elite and the Chattanooga Grizzliez it was sure to be as competitive as we thought. The participating teams kept us entertained with some dominating matchups, some buzzer-beaters, and some unlikely upsets as well. Here is what we learned from of each division.

Spring Screens Division

These guys started out strong in the first matchup of the day was a good one. The Young guys of the Scenic City Warriors came out strong against an older defensive minded Chattanooga Grizzlies team which were pretty good themselves and held their own. Griizzliez never got a comfortable lead until the last 2 minutes of regulation where they wouldnt look back winning by 10. Chattanooga Elite came in as the favorites, however would not leave without getting tested by the Grizzliez in a 54-50 bout that would claim the Championship.

Runner Up: Chattanooga Grizzliez

Champion: Chattanooga Elite

#TeamVolSpecs Division

The 2020'21 boys division was not as wide open as the previous division, Team Legacy (TN) showed early on they were the team to beat in the division, and would have no trouble claiming its title. Perhaps the most impressive win came in an upset of the HS Boys Runner up (Raptors) in an exhibition game, they are a team to be on the lookout for in the future.

Champion: Team Legacy

Change The Game Division

Change the game division had some hype coming in, we've been waiting to get a look at a few organizations, and Lady Dynasty Elite 77 (GA), NWGA Raptors (Ga) were two of them. This division would also feature a young talented team out of Birmingham, AL. It started off immediately in an upset with the Raptors falling to the Lady Warriors of AL. MDE made a new debut with fresh new talent and championship expectations, then entered Lady Dynasty Elite 77. Dynasty Elite was deep with talent, and brought a fan base that refused to let them lose, and they didnt. Here are a few standouts from the division.

2021 5'10 SF Amiya Payne (AL Lady Warriors)- Payne has put the world on notice, she has the size, and she used it well getting to the basket and finishing with contact. She led the entire division in scoring averaging 17 pts a game.

2018 5'9 F Kaiyana Suttles (MDE)- Suttles was the best all around athlete on the floor in most games she played. Suttles was almost unguardable at the high post when she got downhill and attacked the basket

2018 5'7 G Macey Gregg (MDE)- Gregg provided a much needed spark offensively for MDE, going for 20 pts against the Raptors sending MDE to the championship game.

2019 5'7 G/F Tamiya Griffin (Raptors)- Has a well balanced all around game and she led the Raptors in just about every statistical category except assists. Griffin was simply a workhorse for the Raptors and the game tempo changed wen she was on the floor, everyone seem to get better.

Dynasty Elite: There's no need to pick and choose game nuggets for the Dynasty Elite, every game a different player stepped up, whether it be 2018 PG Re'Tavia Floyd making pin-point passes and facilitating, or Taya Gibson converting "and ones". However, the one thing that solidified their championship was team DEFENSE. They consistently wore down everyone for 3 1/2 quarters and closed them out in championship fashion.

Runner Up: MDE

Champion: Lady Dynasty Elite 77

Elite 40 Division

Elite 40 division was a hot one without a doubt, NWGA Raptors were head and shoulders beyond everyone, they were the team to beat, they were the team everyone in the building wanted to see play. NWGA Raptors had an average margin of victory of 20+ points in pool play. There was only one problem, it was only pool play. Out manned, and undersized, the Birmingham Kings would pull off the most unlikely wins over the weekend in a 2 point win to claim the championship. #elite style.
