Changing The Game
2018 6'1 SG Elizabeth Balogun
-Chattanooga, TN It most certainly goes under the radar, but the Chattanooga area as of late is quietly becoming a major recruiting ground for collegiate girls basketball. The local class of 2016 which yielded back-to- back Miss Basketball award winner Kaleigh Clemons (Vanderbilt) along with 12 other girls basketball players that were awarded scholarships to play at the collegiate level, was only the beginning. Hamilton Heights Christian Academy now has 3 athletes that are among the tops in the nation in their respective classes in 2018 6'1 G Jasmine Massengill, 4-star 2018 6'2 SG Elizabeth Balogun, and 3-star 2020 6'0 SG Treasure Hunt.
Bradley Central also holds its own 2018 nationally ranked student athlete in 6'1 G Rhyne Howard. Baylor also holds a few cards in the deck with 2017 5'10 SG Tamya Long (UT-Chattanooga), and 2018 5'11 G JuToreyia Willis at the helm, just to name a few.
Top-Tier basketball players, along with the emergence of Volunteer Prospects; an NCAA approved scouting service dedicated to promoting athletes, programs and bringing quality exposure events to the area, has created a healthy and lively collegiate recruiting environment. It hasn't been publicized much, but some LEGENDARY Hall of Fame visitors such as Vivian Stringer and Dawn Staley among others are becoming regulars in Chattanooga. The women's talent level seed is deeply planted in the southeast region and will continue to bare fruit and will no longer go unnoticed. The game is changing, just pay attention.
